The history of Cheruvalappu Sree Maha Vishnu Temple is marked by significant challenges, particularly during the campaigns of Tipu Sultan. These invasions led to the devastating destruction of the prathishta of Maha Vishnu, which shattered into three pieces, earning the temple the affectionate name "Moonnu Murinja Thevar."

For many years, the temple fell into neglect, with only monthly poojas keeping the flicker of its spiritual essence alive. Once a vibrant center of worship, it struggled to maintain its significance as the scars of destruction lingered. Yet, the devotion of the community never wavered, as memories of shared prayers and festivals continued to inspire hope. The unwavering belief in its revival laid the foundation for a brighter future, ensuring that Cheruvalappu Sree Maha Vishnu Temple would one day reclaim its place as a beacon of spiritual nourishment and community devotion.

Hope was rekindled for Cheruvalappu Sree Maha Vishnu Temple when Kochanujan Variyar took stewardship from Cheruvalappu Variyam. His dedicated leadership marked a turning point, leading to significant renovations that aimed to restore the temple’s sacred legacy. With the community rallying around this vision, the efforts culminated in the punaprathishta, a momentous ceremony that reinstated the prathishta of Maha Vishnu.

This event drew devotees from near and far, symbolizing a collective renewal of faith and hope. Today, with daily poojas resumed, Cheruvalappu Sree Maha Vishnu Temple stands as a beacon of faith and resilience. It invites devotees to reconnect with its rich spiritual heritage, offering a sanctuary for those seeking solace, guidance, and a deeper relationship with the divine.

Each visit is a reminder of the power of community and the transformative journey that has breathed new life into this cherished place of worship.
